My name is Melanie.
I am a seamstress.

My work is hard to pigeonhole. I have worked on many and varied projects. Formally trained in Fashion Design, but my main body of work has mainly been within the costume industry.

I am willing to collaborate on projects with someone who is looking for a sewing machinist/wardrobe manager. My other skills lie in fashion illustration, styling and also costume design and manufacture and some upholstery. I can use both Industrial machines and Domestic sewing equipment.

I have a new label - Satchel. You can find out more at www.myspace.com/satchelbags or theseamstress.etsy.com or email me on Satchelmail@gmail.com

Former projects include: Rebecca Sloan- "Applause Entertainment"- Launch Costume Showcase

Benicio Pty Ltd - "Walking with Dinosaurs"- Industrial Sewing Machinist. Sewing skin for large mechanical dinosaurs.

Monash University- "Our Country's Good"- Wardrobe Manager/Maker

Ballarat University- "They shoot Horses Don't They"- Sewing Machinist

Speigeltent- "La CLique"- Sewing Machinist.Contortionist Chair Cover

Andrew Infanti- "Santa Claus Costume"- Sewing machinist. 17 pairs of Santa Pants

Theatre in Decay- "The Lobotomist. Short & Sweet Fest"- Maker. 2 x male suits.

I also work part time at a costume hire store.

Please enjoy my slide shows

My Style

Most of everything I wear are pieces I have purchased and altered in some way or made from scratch. I love to take old clothes from my wardrobe and wear them in a new way.

Favourite Labels

I prefer op shop and market shopping to high fashion labels

Hey, gorgeous!
I'm so sorry it's taken me ages to get back to you but it's been a lil crazy. I spoke to my friend about you but she already got someone ... sorry, but will keep you in mind for future!

Hi gorgeous!

I have a designer friend who's looking for an onsite sample machinist, and I've mentioned her to you a few times. It's funny, you've been on my mind. If you like you can think about it and let me know, or go and check out her boutique on Gertrude St Fitzroy: Since Grey is the label, it's roughly opposite the 'Left' boutique, & a few doors down from Alice Euphemia's store. Nadiele is the director, she's gorgeous. No promises, but may be worth a nosey! Let me know what you think!!!

Ta Tahhh!

Hi, we're neighbours!
I live in Collingwood just off Smith, what a small world...
anyway, so what sort of work are you willing to do? Are you available as a sample machinist ad hoc? Re your bags, I'd love to see them, you should post them on your page! There's also The Rooftop Market in the city every Friday.

You sound really interesting, and thanks for the lil message! Is a pleasure!

The "inflatables department" sounds hilarious, just has a hilarious mental image associated.

So just have to say the idea of the Golf Course look book, brilliant.
