Change is inevitable. Like the Internet changed music, it's also going to change fashion. Fashionising.com was created because we believe that the world of fashion is changing in a few ways.
- The people who love and influence fashion no longer want mass-produced clothing. We want to mix and match. We want to define our own style. We love staying up to date with trends, but increasingly we're taking those trends and shaping them in our own distinct ways. That's going to keep happening. We want to be unique.
- To be unique we want to find new ways of encountering fashion and the lifestyle that goes with it. Monthly glossies featuring the same clothes simply don't cut it anymore.
- Some of the best clothes and accessories are made by upcoming designers who'll sadly never make it to the high-street. We want a way to find out about what they're doing, and somewhere to buy their pieces.
So that's what we're building at Fashionising.com. A place where the people who really love fashion, whether we style ourselves or are working in the industry, can get together, discover new things, throw around ideas, and show off our work. Most importantly we're building a place that will really change the world of fashion; we'll set trends, we'll end trends, and really redefine what it is to be fashionable.
We're not saying this will happen, we're saying it's happening now. The world is moving on. The great designers and influencers are moving and a completely new breed are hitting the scene. Fashionising.com is going to be there to help them.
Who 'We' Are
Looking back we've used the word 'we' a hell of a lot, but we've always meant it in terms of fashionisers; the members of Fashionising.com who are increasingly at the fore of fashion. But if you're interested in the people behind Fashionising.com, here it is.
Fashionising.com was started by four 20-somethings who all happened to find each other in Melbourne, Australia. They are Daniel P Dykes, Tania Braukamper, her sister Renata, and Allan Barger. Not all four of us have worked in the fashion industry, but we all live fashion. One day we all realised that we shared a few common beliefs;
- Fashion can change your life for the better. As Allan once commented, "" can't remember his quote now. Fashion tragic to something or other.
- That what's available on the high-streets isn't enough and is seldom different. Rarely did it allow us to express ourselves as we wanted.
- Fashion is going to change, and the Internet was going to change us. This worried us, because the music industry reacted so badly to the Internet and they're still suffering for it. We didn't want to see that happen to fashion.
- That there's nothing out there to bring the fashion world together, and all the talent in it, on a global scale.
And that's where the seed for Fashionising.com was planted. After testing out various ideas in the guise of other sites we got to it and launched Fashionising to coincide with 2007's L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival. And we're still building it, expanding and changing it every day; much like the world of fashion itself.
