There’s something about Parisian beauty that draws us in. Whether it’s the elegance, the style of the confidence, Paris has always been a source of inspiration in fashion.
For the Aurelio Costarella spring / summer 2015 show at Australian Fashion Week, we were given a bit of Paris through a beauty look that’s part gothic romance and part archetypal Parisian. The man behind this look is James Malloy of MAC cosmetics and he describes it as a 1930s inspired, Parisian look with a melancholy edge. This look features a smokey eye with a combination of burgundy and red on the lips – it truly is a beautiful mix of drama and beauty.
To get this look for yourself, read on after the break for our complete how to.
How to: the dark Parisian beauty look
Prepare your skin for this beauty look with an all around primer like MAC Prep + Prime moisture infusion. This keeps your skin healthy and will make your make up stay on longer.
Create a flawless base by applying foundation evenly on your face. For the show, MAC face and body foundation was used together with MAC studio finish concealer for areas that need extra coverage. Then set your foundation with some powder like MAC Prep + Prime transparent finishing powder.
Start by creating a base by sweeping on a brown-gray shade of eyeshadow on your entire eyelids.
Add color to your cheeks by simple blending in crimson and burgundy lip color together on your cheekbones. These are the same colours you will be using for your lips.
To make sure your lip colour goes on nicely, condition your lips with lip balm or lip conditioner (Tip: when using bright coloured lipstick it’s always best to exfoliate your lips first). Define your lips with MAC stone lip liner or a similar shade then top it off with a blend of burgundy and crimson.
The Parisian beauty is one that is hard to forget, much like this look – it’s dark yet beautiful, simple yet stunning.
