With the androgynous trend going on for quite some time this year, this question is only fitting: if tomboys wore make up, how would day do it? Make up James Karliardos answered this questions through the beauty look he created for the Erdem spring / summer 2014 fashion show at London Fashion Week.
As Nars’ head make up artist, Karliardos was tasked to create a look that would reflect the collection inspired by the old English schoolboy. The look created was very masculine featuring strong eyes and brows. Another very notable part of this look is the use of the kohl eyeliner which is a big trend for this year. Androgynous, modern yet still beautiful, recreating this “almost no make-up” look is very easy and we’ve got the complete how to right after the break.
How to: Erdem’s boyish beauty look
First things first, you have to make sure you keep your skin healthy. Do this by keeping your skin hydrated with the use of moisturizer or an all in one make up primer.
Next, create a glowing and flawless base by applying foundation evenly on your skin. For areas that need extra coverage like under your eyes, use concealer in the same shade as your foundation. NARS’ Radiant Creamy Concealer and Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer were used for the Erdem show. Keep in mind that the dewy finish / look is what you’re after.
Next, highlight your face to create dimension. Use powder that’s slightly lighter than your foundation and sweep it over the following areas: the top of your brows, above you cheekbones and the bridge of your nose.
Once you’ve done the highlights, fill the hollows of your cheeks with some blush on. Choose a shade that’s matte and very natural looking.
The brows for this look are very square looking and you can simply do this by taking some eye shadow (in the same shade as your brows). Using a brush fill your brows in in soft, short strokes much like how you would when you’re sketching or drawing. Keep in mind that your brows should be very masculine looking.
To give the eyes the string masculine look, take kohl eyeliner pencil and then line your lower lash line. Then with your finger or a cotton tip, lightly smudge the eyeliner for a smoldering look.
Boyish yet still very charming, this is a look that will only take minutes to have. It’s perfect for complimenting a school girl look despite being boyish.
