Sydney has been abuzz with Australian Fashion Week (MBFWA) and one of the brands that showcased their spring / summer 2013 collection is Watson x Watson. The collection was, simply put, edgy: which is why official make up sponsor Maybelline New York created a 1990s New York inspired beauty look to go with the clothes.
The man behind this look is Maybelline Make Up Director Nigel Stanislaus and he calls it a fusion of ’90s surf cool and New York City edge. This glowing holiday look consists of a combination of defined brows, strong lips and shiny nude eyes. It is a good mix of simple and striking much like how things were in the 90s. Easy to do yet still gorgeous, this is a look you can wear with almost anything and we’ve got the steps right after the break.
How to: Watson x Watson 1990s beauty look
This beauty look has well-defined and somehow full eyebrows. To get this, Maybelline NY Master Shape Eyebrow Pencil was used to fill in the brows by doing short upward strokes. The brush on the other side of the pencil was then used to even out the pencil.
This look features really shiny lids and this was done with the help of lip gloss. Maybelline NY Color Sensational High Shine Lip Gloss in Iced Chocolate and Mirrored Mauve were applied on top of each other on the eye lids to get that shiny nude color. Another way you can get this look is by applying nude eye shadow on your lids first and then topping it off with clear lip gloss.
This look has a youthful and sun-kissed glow, to get this, you will need to use bronzer and blush on your cheeks. For the Watson x Watson show, Maybelline NY FITme Bronzer and FITme Blush were used. Start by taking the bronzer and applying it on your jawline with a brush. Then apply the blush right above your jawline, blending it with the bronzer in the process. Doing this also gives you a more contoured or defined look.
Finish your beauty look by applying Maybelline NY Superstay 14HR Lipcolor in Perpetual Peony on your lips with a lip brush.
The 90s was a good mix of fun, edge and minimalism. This look captures the true essence of the 90s without looking too out of place in the present time. Next time you want to give your look an extra boost try giving it a bit of the 90s edge by wearing this beauty look from Watson x Watson.
