In case you haven’t heard, 1960s makeup has carried over into the list of spring 2014 beauty trends. Making a subtle nod to it was James Malloy of MAC with the makeup look he created for the McGraw spring / summer 2015 show at Australian fashion week.

In drawing inspiration from the 1960s, this look was a nod to a modern “bad girl” version of the iconic Jane Birkin. With flawless glowing skin and lashes to die for, this look is a must-try for this season. Check out the our easy how to after the break.

How to: McGraw Subtle 60s / bad girl Jane Birkin beauty look

Prep.

Start by prepping your skin with the help of some moisturizer to keep your skin healthy and then apply some face brightening primer. If you have a makeup primer with moisturizer then just use that. For the McGraw show MAC Lightful Softening Lotion and Lightful Brightening Serum were both used during prep.

Face.

Flawless looking skin is essential to this look. To do this take some foundation and apply it evenly on your face with your hands or a foundation brush (MAC Face and Body Foundation was used for the show). For areas that need extra coverage, take a concealer brush and use that to apply concealer like MAC Pro Longwear Concealer on those areas.

Cheeks.

As this look is very simple, the cheeks are slightly colored using a cream blush in a bronze shade. MAC Tinted Cream Color Based worked well for the McGraw show and added warmth to the look.

Eyes.

Define your eyes by lining your lash line (upper and lower) with coffee colored eye pencil and then lightly smudging it.
Next, curl your upper and lower lashes then apply a coat of mascara on both. Define the roots of the lower lashes some more by coating the roots again with the mascara. MAC Extended Play Lash was used for the McGraw show. For an even more 1960s inspired look, add some false lashes to the lower lash line for a babydoll look.

Lips.

Apply lip conditioner or lip balm to hydrate your lips. Then take a lip pencil in a light shade and apply it on the center of the lip. Top the lip liner with matte lipstick that’s on the same shade (in the case of the McGraw Show, MAC Tint Cream Color Base was used) for some light sheen or highlight on the lips.
