Strong eyes are a huge trend this year and nothing gives your eyes that striking impression quite like kohl eyeliner. A trend in itself this year, the use of kohl eyeliner has been seen in many different runway shows and jumping on the bandwagon is Kenzo.

Fall / winter 2013 for Kenzo meant strong silhouettes and bold prints. Taking cue from this, MAC make up artist Aaron De Mey created a kohl eyeliner look that is truly one of a kind. The result is a futuristic Maharaja look that accentuated the under eye and had soft nude lips. A makeup look that is straight to the point and direct, it truly speaks for itself and you can have it in a few easy steps.

How to: Kenzo’s “futuristic Maharaja” make up

First things first, you have to keep your skin hydrated and healthy. You get this by simply having a good priming routine. For this Kenzo make up look, MAC Studio Finish SPF 15 Concealer was mixed with a moisturizer and then applied evenly on the face to create an even skin tone. This will also help your make up stay on longer.

Next, highlight your face by applying a base / cream foundation like MAC’s Pearl Cream Colour Base. Using your fingers apply it on the bridge of your nose, upper cheekbones, chin, and cupid’s bow. Set your highlight by dusting MAC Silver Dusk Iridescent Loose Powder with a fluff brush on the areas where you applied the cream base. This will create dimension on your face even without the presence of blush and contouring.

Now it’s time to work on your eyes, start by taking kohl eye pencil something like MAC’s Smolder Eye Kohl. Apply this on the waterline or roots of your lower lashes in straight line to give it more of that Indian look.

To add more smolder, blend MAC Carbon Eye shadow or any black eye shadow over the line you just created. This also intensifies the color and softens the line made with the kohl pencil.
For that cat eye look, take a liquid eyeliner and apply it on the outer corner of your eyes. Make sure this part is sharp and defined. In the Kenzo show, MAC Blacktrack Fluidline was used to create this “cat eye”.
Finish your eyes by taking clear lip gloss much like M·A·C PRO Gloss Texture and then applying it over the lids. This creates a striking look without taking the focus of the lower lash line.

This futuristic Maharaja is completed with soft nude lips. Start working on this by applying Translucent Powder on the edges of your lips.

Next blend Pearl Cream Colour Base and Silver Dusk Iridescent Loose Powder to highlight the center of your lips, much like the way you did the highlights on your face.
Lastly, add a drop of lip gloss in the very center of your lips. This completes the 3 textures that the nude lip of this make up look features.

There are many sources of inspiration when it comes to make up like this look from Kenzo. Who would’ve thought that a different approach on eyeliner can turn an otherwise normal everyday look into a “futuristic Maharaja”? This look is perfect for those days when you just want to draw someone in with your beautiful eyes.
