Bright, bold and beautiful are three words that best describe the make up look spotted at the DSquared2 spring / summer 2014 show at Milan fashion week. With bold orange lips, it’s truly a look that can speak for itself.

Charlotte Tilbury of MAC cosmetics is the woman behind this retro tropicana look. Inspired by the ’50s and the beach, this look goes perfectly with vintage swimwear cuts and bombshell attitude. Check out our complete how to for this look right after the break.

How to: DSquared2’s retro tropicana beauty look

It’s very important that you prepare your skin before you start working on any make up look. After washing your face, apply some moisturizer or an all in one make up primer to keep your skin hydrated. This will also help the make up stay on longer.

A good flawless base is needed to pull off this look. For this, you will need a foundation that’s in the same shade as your skin. Apply it evenly with a brush or your fingers. If you have areas that need more coverage like under your eyes, you can use a concealer. Just make sure it blends well with your foundation.

This look has some light contouring on it. Take some bronzer and using a powder brush lightly sweep in on your jawline. Next, start on the sides of your forehead and go down until you reach your jawline. This gives you that tropical look.

Lightly dust your the apple of your cheeks with blush that’s in an orange shade like apricot. Think of it as an orange sun-kissed glow.

Using an eyebrow pencil that’s in the same shade as your hair, fill in your brows using short, light strokes for a natural look.

Start working on your eyes by lining your upper lash line with a coffee colored eye pencil. Next, sweep on brown eyeshadow on your upper lids all the way to your brows. For the DSquared2 show, two eyeshadows were mixed together: MAC pro sculpting cream in Copper Breach and Richly Honed.

Curl your eyelashes and then apply a good amount of mascara. For an elongated and flirtier look, add individual false lashes on the outer corners of your eyes.

This is the “main feature” of this beauty look. Start by defining your lips with an orange lip liner like M.A.C. Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in What A Blast!. Next, take a brush (like MAC #228) and apply an orange lipstick evenly on your lips. M.A.C. Lipstick in Morange was used at DSquared2.

Opting for a bold orange lipstick is a perfect way of bringing a retro look in line with spring 2014’s beauty trends. When mixed with a sun-kissed face, you’ve got an exotic, 1950s inspired look that’s ultimately fun and feminine for summer.
