How to: the reverse cat-eye beauty look

It might require some serious precision, but Lucia Pieroni’s Japanese inspired graphic eye makeup created at Missoni is totally worth both the time and the effort put into trying to emulate this modern, reversed cat eye. Defined by a rounded-down shape and meant to highlight the inner corner of the eye, this spring 2014 beauty look is all about adding some edge to an otherwise minimalistic take on makeup.

Style it with heavy knits or a cool biker jacket and you won’t need to wait until spring to make the most out of the cool geometric eyes. Find the complete guide to recreate this sharp beauty look after the break.

How to: Missoni’s Japanese inspired graphic eyes

Begin by prepping your skin and apply primer all over the face to achieve that flawless base this look is built upon. You can apply the primer using a brush, or your fingers.
Using a foundation brush, apply sheer moisturizing foundation all over the face and blend in. This step ensures your skin will have that luminous glow and healthy appearance.

Next, using a small brush apply concealer under the eyes and on any blemishes, making sure you blend it all in using the tip of your finger.

To keep the overall look natural but radiant at the same time, apply a tint of light shimmer powder onto the cheekbones, making sure the powder you end up using doesn’t contain glitter. Remember you’re after a natural, healthy glow.

Starting at the outer corner of your eye, draw a thick line right along your upper lashes, and swoop it down into a point near your tear duct. Follow the natural shape of your eyes and skip the classic cat eye flick for more of a modern look.

Tip: Use a gel formula eyeliner with a brush for a precise, yet softer finish. If it feels easier, you can also recreate the look using a natural wax-based black liner pencil, topped with a richly pigmented black powder shadow.

Proceed to the inner corners of the eyes, where you’ll continue painting around your tear duct section going about a quarter of the way along the bottom lash line, at which point you will allow the liner to trail off by gently blending its end. Next, draw a sharp point angling out from the crest of your eye using the pointed tip of your angled brush.
This graphic eye makeup doesn’t require the use of mascara. Instead, choose to keep the look clean and minimalistic by smudging a light, translucent silver glitter eyeliner on both the lid and the brow bone.
Finish off the look using a clear lip balm to reveal the natural beauty of your lips.
