Karl Lagerfeld’s makeup collaboration previewed

Karl has konfessed.

He has confessed to using only Shu Uemura eye shadows and eye pencils when sketching designs over the past twenty years; you didn’t think the ‘Kaiser’ would be using Stabilo, did you? Remaining loyal to Shu Uemura for his “art supplies”, Karl states that “other manufacturers don’t offer such beautiful colours”, therefore it was only a matter of time before a collaboration would emerge.

Announced in June, the seventeen-piece Karl Lagerfeld x Shu Uemura makeup collection will include the likes of nail polish, base mousse, cleansing oil, false eye lashes, not to mention Karl’s take on the Japanese company’s famous eyelash curler.

Each of the products will be based upon the character of Mon Shu, a word play upon the French term of endearment “mon chou.” Drawb by Lagerfeld (no doubt with Shu Uemura goods), Mon Shu is a delicate, dark haired character with red eyes who sports a bob – she is Karl’s version of a Japanese manga character. Mon Shu, exhibits a likeness to Mr. Lagerfeld, wearing a high collared white shirt with a black tie.

Prices will begin at $27, for nail polish, reaching $368 for a large make-up box. Fashionisers in the United Kingdom, United States and Canada will be the first to get their hands on this limited edition collaboration when it debuts in October. The rest of the world will have the chance to meet Mon Shu in November.
