When it comes to eye make up, the-smokey-eyed look is a favourite among women. This sultry and sexy look highlights the eyes – usually with the use of dark eye shadow – but a great example of how to mix it up is this violet eyeshadow look we saw on the Jason Wu Fall 2013 runway.

Smoldering violet eyes like these are both pretty and powerful. Make up artist Diane Kendal was behind this stunning look that’s a great contrast to the fall colors we are accustomed to seeing. The inspiration for the look is the final piece of the show, while the cosmetics used backstage were the ones from Jason Wu’s collaboration with Lancôme. Bright and glamorous, this beauty look also features clear glowing skin and nude lips that make the eyes stand out even more.

Check out the complete how to for this beauty look – the perfect surprise accompaniment to your fall / winter 2013 outfits – after the break.

How to: Jason Wu’s violet eyes

With any make up look, it’s best to prep your skin to help your makeup last and to keep your skin healthy. You can do this by using moisturizer or an all in one make up primer.

Once you’ve primed your skin, create the fresh glowing look with the use of foundation. Apply it evenly on your face with a brush or your fingers. If your have areas that need extra coverage, you can use a concealer for them: just remember to blend it well. For the Jason Wu show, Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24H was used.

This look is pretty simple and the face is almost bare but you can give it some dimension by contouring and highlighting several areas. Take some powder that’s slightly darker than your skin tone and with a blush brush, apply it below your cheekbones or the hollows of your cheek. Carefully blend it on your skin with the brush.

Take some peach-pink blush and apply it on your cheekbones to add a bit of color and then to add highlights, softly dab on gold powder on the top of the blush.

Start working on your eyes by taking some purple eyeliner like Lancôme Khol eyeliner in Purple Dusk. Trace your upper lash line going all the way to the outer corner of the eyes for that cat-eye look. Do the same thing for the lower lash line until it connects with the line you drew on your upper lashes.

Next, take some violet eye shadow and apply it all over your upper eye lids. Carefully blend it out with your blending brush while you use the cat-eye line you made earlier as a guide. Lacome x Jason Wu’s Luminous Eyeshadow in Violet and Indigo were blended together for the Jason Wu show.
Add definition to your eyes by taking violet gel liner like Lancome’s Violet Stylista and applying it on the upper lash line.
Next, take some mascara and apply a coat or two on your lashes.

The eyebrows for this look are very natural looking. All you have to do is to groom them and then take some eye shadow (in the same shade as your hair) and fill your brows in using a brush. Use short and light strokes for a more natural look.

Since this look is all about the eyes, the lips for this look are nude. To do this, apply concealer on your lips and then sweep on some lip balm.

A little color goes a long way and in the case of this look, violet goes a long way. This look may be simple and quick to do but it will liven up any fall look.
