5 CDs to give at Christmas: Steph's picks

We've heard from Allan with his recommendations of the five albums to buy for your friends this Christmas. Well, fellow Fashioniser Steph had her own ideas, and has written in with her top 5 picks...

CDs to buy as gifts

1. Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
If you haven't heard the latest album from the Sheffield boys well then you had better get a move on.

Flicking through a little book of sex tips. Remember when the boys were all electric?

The boys are at their best, with a new, rougher sound, witty lyrics to keep us all amused and that same old cute English accent! This album is a must for everyone at Christmas.

2. Klaxons – Myths of the Near Future
For those who haven't heard of the 'Nu Rave' scene, well then these are boys who started it ... accidentally!

His ears pricked with their knife hears that the east are coming west are coming.
From Gravity's Rainbow the axis here is still unknown, the children's faces glow.

The album is an explosion of indie mixed with electronica to send all your senses into overdrive. Crazy beats, crazy lyrics, screeching guitars and too much synth this is a sure party starter!

3. Patrick Wolf – The Magic Position
This kid is the new David Bowie. Just with awesome hair, sequinned tops and a broken heart.

And look your skirt is torn
and there's blood on our sheets
as comes the long arm of the law
Fist tight, banging on the door

This album will be the darkest, saddest, happiest and most meaningful you have heard in a while, and the boys will love it too. This record has the most wonderful array instruments you will ever hear, from baritone ukuleles to harps to bird and fox noises!

4. New Young Pony Club – Fantastic Playroom
Besides the awesome name, these guys are also awesome band and are going to be the next big thing.

Fantastic flavor fancies
Sick like Syd and Nancy
Wicked as a joyride jaunt.

A mix of pop and electronica, songs about ice cream, cute bass lines and colours that bring you back to the days of JEM, New Young Pony Club is sure to get the scene kids talking!

5. The Wombats - A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation
The Wombats bring you songs about girls, boys and marsupials.

I've met someone that makes me feel seasick
Oh what a skill to have
Oh what a skill to have

These guys are my new favourite band! And I can tell you now this really is the best album I’ve heard about girls, boys and marsupials. With a mix of Indie and pop and what sounds like three young lads out of high school this album isn't all about first love. With catchy tunes, kick-ass harmonies and great lyrics you are sure to be loved if you give this for Christmas!
