New Years Fashion Resolutions for 2008

Making resolutions is part of the fun of entering a brand new year! Even if we never actually stick to them... hmm, but I digress. There are times when we can stick to them and the year is all the more better for it. Resolutions can be about all sorts of things, whether it's to do with your health, your social life, your work or your education. But we here are all about fashion, so if you're looking to add a few fashion-related resolutions to your New Year's list we thought we'd give you some ideas.

We're dreaming of a fashionable Christmas

If you're keeping your eye on the front page of Fashionising.com, or a calendar, you'll be well aware that Christmas is less than 4 sleeps away. With 2007 seeing us celebrate our first Christmas, we've been bringing you a fashionable Christmas gift guide each day since late November. We've also brought you Fashionising.com's first pictorial; Escape.

The amount of work that has gone into Escape, it's promotion of Fashionising, and the fact that we have a newsletter going out this weekend, has meant that we're a little beat today. So instead of us recommending gifts, or impart similar knowledge, you can consider Escape our gift to you our loyal member and fashioniser. But if you are after some Christmas gift ideas for the weekend, why not look back on our recommendations since November?

Creating a personal gift - on a shoestring

Christmas doesn't have to be about spending heaps on luxurious gifts (hey I said doesn't have to be, it still can!) But if you want to give a gift that's personal and meaningful, there's plenty you can do. Here are 5 ideas for creating a personal gift on a shoestring.

  • Screen print a personalised message on a tee (or apron, or bag... whatever else you think suits them.) Basic equipment for doing this isn't too expensive and can be used over and over again.
  • Customise an article of clothing to suit their style. For example - grab a plain tee and add some detail such as vintage military buttons, badges or brooches, or ribbon or lace for a girl.

Plain tees and canvas bags available from Amazon.com

Customise this: Recycled Cotton Canvas Tote Bags $8.99 each; American Apparel Unisex Tees $9.95 each; and American Apparel T-shirt Dresses $8.99 each, from Amazon.

Top 5 fashion magazine gifts for girls

A magazine subscription may seen a bit of a ho-hum gift, but there are times when it can be just right. Consider that getting a parcel once a month with a fantastic fashion magazine is actually quite a great thing - and many can appreciate the joy that comes with it.

So, without further ado, here are my top 5 picks on women's fashion magazines to buy subscriptions to as gifts.

Christmas Desires: Max Brenner Hug Mug

Ok so it's not exactly a grand or highly personal gift... but let's face it, how many times do you get stuck having to buy a small token of appreciation, or the ever-painful "$10 and under" Kris-Kringle present?

This is where the Max Brenner hug-mug comes in handy - they're unique, cute and so cosy on a cold winter's night.

5 CDs to give at Christmas: Steph's picks

We've heard from Allan with his recommendations of the five albums to buy for your friends this Christmas. Well, fellow Fashioniser Steph had her own ideas, and has written in with her top 5 picks...

CDs to buy as gifts

1. Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
If you haven't heard the latest album from the Sheffield boys well then you had better get a move on.

5 CDs to buy your friends for Christmas

So it had to happen, you had to get friends that totally aren't into fashion, what can you get them... A gift card? No that's totally naff, no one likes getting a gift card, it's like getting money, but not as good. So you've been racking your brain trying to figure out what to buy him (or her)?! I'm going to go out on a limb and recommend for you some music that may appeal to your friends that who aren't interested in a scarf again this year.

Fashionably Late with Stacy London

After five seasons as co-host of What Not to Wear in the US, Stacy London is debuting her own show.

'Fashionably Late' will air on Fridays at 10 PM (ET/PT) beginning November 23, on TLC in the US.

Rebecca Romjin and Stacy London

Apparently each one-hour episode will feature "fashion 101, dramatic makeovers, extravagant audience giveaways and nightly themed cocktails created by the in-house mixologist." We're told that Rebecca Romijn, Amanda Bynes and Becki Newton are just a few of the celebrities that will stop by.

ARA Lord Mayor's Innovation Award

During the chaos of Motorola Melbourne Spring Fashion Week, we were pleased to be able to take an afternoon out to attend the Australian Retailers Association / City of Melbourne Lord Mayor's Innovation Award luncheon.

To start off the event, a panel of previous winners, including Fashioniser Fiona from Hidden Secrets Tours, responded in depth to questions around business innovation and the future of retail. Next, the nominees for the Lord Mayor's Award were introduced.
