Lost London photos by Ken Russell

He may have been a self-confessed "disaster" when it came to formal fashion photography, but there is none the less much inspiration to be drawn from Ken Russel's lost London photographs. Taken in earlier part of the 1950s, the photos are striking, quirky and unmistakably English.

Pret-a-portea: High Tea and High Fashion

Sydney Fashionisers may have already experienced the unique combination of high tea and fashion that is 'Pret-a-portea'. Now, the event has come to Melbourne.

The next instalment in this series of events is on Tuesday, June 12th at 2.30pm, where White Suede will be taking their designs to the catwalk.

What's Happened to Tea

I came across an article on Product Dose about the Postmodern Utilo Tea Stick. You basically throw in some loose tea and drop the stick into a cup of water - a really lazy way to make tea. The stick is described as being made of "the brand's distinctively bold stainless steel"... Uh, what modern kitchen appliance isn't made from stainless steel these days?

Akina Exhibition at Kinokuniya, Sydney

If you are lucky enough to be in Sydney this month, you absolutely must go visit Kinokuniya - currently hosting an exhibition of works by creative mastermind, and Fashionising member, Lang Leav of Akina. The theme behind the exhibit is "The Teddy Bear's Picnic" -

"Akina is a villain with a button fetish. She hacks up cute Teddy Bears to steal their button eyes. The Teddy Bear's Picnic narrates Akina's story along with the tales of seven other Fairytale villains. Each have their own secret button fetish and each have a unique way of punishing their teddy bears."
The exhibition runs until the 27th of March 2007. Find it at Level 2, The Galeries Victoria, 500 George St, Sydney.

Visit akina.com.au to see more.

High Tea with Sydney's Fashion Bloggers

For Sydney fashion bloggers who aren't already aware, there's a get together organised for this Sunday. I'm pleased to be attending - particularly given my love for high tea (and, apparently, interstate travel).

40 Films That Inspire Fashion

The silver screen has long been the domain of sexy starlets and classic beauties, and the film industry's influence on fashion is certainly undeniable.

From the 1930s through to the present day, Carol Lee over at Papermag lists 40 films that will whet your appetite for fashion. From the classic styling of Kim Novak in Hitchcock's Vertigo, to Faye Dunaway's iconic look in Bonnie and Clyde, to Angelina Jolie's Gia. Interestingly enough it seems The Devil Wears Prada didn't make the cut on this list.

Not all obvious choices, so worth a look.

Kylie dressed to be unimpressed

Kylie Minogue's exhibition held at London's Victoria and Albert Museum has been labelled inappropriate by British art critics.

Its not the only problem of recent times for the Australian singer, having recently after splitting from French actor Olivier Martinez.

The exhibition holds costumes, album covers and photographs, however Britain's The Observer newspaper reports that these commodities are not worthy of being held at a museum.

The museum defends its claim to the exhibition which aims to entice fashion students.

Face of Fashion featuring Kate Moss

The British National Portrait Gallery certainly thinks they know how to pull a crowd - as from 15 February the gallery will use supermodel Kate Moss to headline their new exhibition "Face of Fashion" featuring a series of portraits by photographer (and the person also touted as having brought Moss to fame) Corrine Day.
