Bliss Lau: leather that tip toes softly

Ordinarily, when garments are composed of multiple leather straps and metal fastenings and layered over lingerie, the result is something quite hard. Fetishist. Perhaps even punkish. But Bliss Lau’s fall 2011 collection manages to expertly steer clear of that. Instead her unique take on leather strapped pieces – which fail to fit neatly into either the garment or the accessories category, instead walking a blurred line between the two – slip into a soft, artistic category of their own.

Photographed by Eric Guillemain, Bliss Lau’s fall campaign tip-toes into a ballet theme that works wonders when paired with Amanda Norgaard’s lithe limbs and feminine milkmaid braids. They may not be everyday pieces – but Lau proves again that leather harnesses can be a more soft and versatile accessory than anyone originally expected.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for Fashionising.com, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
