In a city where made in P.R.C. with an attitude problem is labeled as “fashion” and a loosely covered bite off a well established Parisian couture house is blindly accepted; Ann Zed has defied (if not defiled) the norm to show that all is not lost with Melbourne’s fashion scene. The Melbourne school of fashion graduate chose Jim Morrison as her inspiration for her debut collection at Eve night club last week. Although not as literal as other collections, the spirit of rock and punk was still prevalent.

The collection came mostly in skirts, pants tops and dresses in varying shades of black with metallic touches of silver, ivory as well as highlights of pink and white. The ambiance the clothes gave was that of a raw confidence which gave it a strong sense of honesty – characteristics which she identifies her female customers as having.

Annabel describes her collection as complicated yet simple, something which she identifies herself as. Perhaps the concept shows through a mostly unstructured silhouette with the complexities revealing itself on closer inspection. This was shown with her cleverly executed use of detail demonstrating the artist’s strong creative ability. She’s definitely someone to keep an eye on.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for Fashionising.com, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
