Some Dolce & Gabbana collections are so cohesive they’re practically strung together with super-glue. Seeing the fall 2011 collection styled into a look book, it’s apparent this isn’t one of them.
You might stumble across a full leopard print dress one minute, a masculine tuxedo the next, followed by an outfit of a plaid miniskirt and heavy black creepers, later superseded by a vibrant citrus print frock. Throw into the mix stars and stripes, fishtail gowns, fur boots, fishnets and cossack hats, and you have yourself a pretty broad mix.
Much like is the case of this campaign, it’s really the masculine pieces that draw the eye the most. Some suiting takes its inspiration from the masculine tailoring trend that’s hit menswear; some stick to sharply sexy and figure hugging.
In the fair side of the masculine/feminine dichotomy, it’s worth keeping an eye out for the lace pieces – in particular a lace jumpsuit that gathers in above the ankles – and bustling fur coats.
