“Everything is, essentially, a fragment of the past infused with the dreams of the future.”
Ash To Gold may have hit on a universal truth in that one simple statement. The past and the future, indeed where fashion is concerned, are somewhat inseparable. While we may dream of the future, it’s inextricably linked to all that’s gone before. That was in the mind of the label when their transseasonal 2013 collection ‘Future Fragments’ was conceived.
If this collection presents us with fragments of Ash To Gold’s future then we can envisage it’s a promising one. While we won’t see it in person until it hits the runway at the upcoming Australia fashion week, the look book is filled with strong silhouettes, complex panelling techniques, hand-dyed fabrics and layerings of colours and prints that take the pieces easily between seasons.
The Fletcher & Black photographed look book pits the deja vu of familiarity-meets-futurism against a perfect abstract backdrop. It’s a look book worth viewing in full, though we’ll also be anticipating a success at the MBFWA ‘New Generation 2′ show come May 4 in Sydney.
