McQueen’s dominatrix meets Snow White

Blaming the Royal Wedding for an enforced reference to Kate Middleton every time Sarah Burton is spoken of seems very legitimate. A historic wedding dress that reassured the longevity of the lace trend, Burton has put an additional bookmark in the house of McQueen.

When Alexander McQueen‘s autumn / fall 2011 collection strutted down the runway at Paris fashion week, early this year, traces of princess elegance collided with McQueen’s trademark buoyant-robotic aesthetic. The look book for the season is now out and the fashion house’s bequest continues to awe us.

Knitted fur, fringed tweed jackets, copious amount of leather accentuate the fetish-aspect of the collection, while cascading organza blurs the lines of androgyny. Raven black and snowy white hijack the entire look book embracing each piece with the McQueen gene.

Sharp silhouettes with belted and defined waists give the illusion of a corseted bodice until closer observation. The feministic touch takes a dive when an evening gown is worn with fingerless leather gloves and thigh-hugging leather lace-ups boots.

But that’s an Alexander McQueen woman for you. Love it or loathe it, she will never go unnoticed.
