I’ve always found it pretty hard to find a pair of specs that are both fashionable and reasonably priced. It’s like the major optical stores in Australia have never quite cottoned on to the fact that glasses are a fashion accessory, as well as a necessity, for many people.

Specsavers, a highly successful UK franchise, have just hit Australia’s shores, and I’m pleased to say they’re finally making an effort to fill that market gap.

At last week’s launch of the Collins Place store, I was treated to a bigger range of frames in more up-to-date styles than I’ve yet found in any other Australian store. They don’t yet carry all the designer brands you’d like to see; but what they do stock is well worth the visit.

Price-wise, you basically get two sets of frames for the price of one – the company’s philosophy being that glasses are an interchangeable fashion accessory like any other; so why stick to only one pair?? (And rightly so!) You can expect to find a store near you pretty soon, with 150 opening up nationally this year.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for Fashionising.com, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
