If you like your accessories plain and understated, turn away. Avert your eyes. Balmain is most definitely not the brand you are looking for. If unabashed rockstar glamour is your thing, however, slip on your glittering high heels and enjoy the ride.
The fashion house’s spring 2012 accessories collection is studded, beaded, embroidered, embellished. The ’70s and ’80s glam influences are still carrying on through the brand’s collections, but for the coming season they’re given a spin that nods to tribal influences, Mexican dress, and Spanish bullfighter costume. That means gold, and lots of it – be it a gilded bull’s head protruding from the centre of a clutch, or a gold-plated heel on a snakeskin ankle boot.
It’s an aesthetic not all will cherish, but fans of the brand under Decarnin will still get their fix of bold, glamour-dusted statement pieces under Olivier Rousteing’s rein if this collection is anything to go by.
