Dark magic and Maripossa

Can nightmares be beautiful? Haunting things that flash into your submerged consciousness like the flickering images of a projector reel, causing you to jolt awake, gasping for your own reality? If such horrors usually reserved for nightmares and horror films can be beautiful, than this is the occasion. With its dark magic, Maripossa’s 2013 campaign simultaneously haunts and captivates.

The Australian jewellery label brings rawness of elements in chunks of molten metal, and fabric-like jewellery that looks somewhere between the sturdiness of chain-mail and the delicacy of spider web. The collection plays in that mystical space where the cool girl – the one with a bohemian sensibility and a tough edge – likes to play, admiring things that have beauty without necessarily having polish.

The photography by Lissy Elle has the same kind of rawness, light-dappled, faded, or grainy, like photographs lost and rediscovered. Haunted photographs.

Featuring model Rita Violentij and styled by the label’s designer, Lauren Besser, you can view more of the Maripossa (maripossa.com.au) collection – ‘Into the Ether’ – by clicking on the gallery.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for Fashionising.com, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
