True craftsmanship seems to be in short supply these days – let alone the kind of products that marry craftsmanship with the romance of a historical backstory. Gherardini’s ‘La Pretiosa’ has both, being immaculately hand-crafted and reproduced from a 15th century sketch by none other than Leonardo Da Vinci.

“(The bag is) based on a drawing that genius Leonardo da Vinci drew at the end of the 15th century (according to a philological analysis carried out five centuries later by the Leonardo Da Vinci Ideal Museum). Today, Gherardini has reinterpreted Leonardo’s talent with a creation that weds highly skilled craftsmanship and modern esthetics.”

The video below attests to the work involved – and quality output – of the final product, which is impressively worked together from embroidered calfskin and braided leather, and an ornamental chiseled brass handle.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for Fashionising.com, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
