There’s an underlying fierceness to the Lucette brand that’s ever-present; it’s in the willingness to take seasonal trends to a bold level and to play with structure in a way that’s feminine but not necessarily soft. Their High Summer 2012 collection has it on full display in sharp-shouldered dresses and leather harness necklines that work their way into otherwise free flowing dresses and tops. Another of summer’s favourites – the peplum – is played to in strong, almost futurist, shapes.
Taking the title Independent Spirit, the official background of the collection is one inspired by the Mediterranean: an infusion that’s clear from the bright colours, Capri Scarf prints, and crisp white cottons.
Shooting both the look book and campaign imagery for the collection was Todd Barry, while videographer Ken Butti captured the behind-the-scenes action in the above film. Butti’s video does the clothes a little extra justice, sneaking us a peek at some close-up details and capturing some of the movement of the pieces.
