With just a few short weeks until Fashion Exposed hits Melbourne, anticipation is building for one of the fair’s highlights: the Debut competition. Debut shines the spotlight on up and coming designers and bestows sought-after prizes to its winning entrants.
One of the finalists in this year’s Accessories category is Totomoto, designed by Perth’s Cynthia Ellis. Gazing upon the label’s exotic, heavy gold pieces, it’s easy to imagine the “rugged desert like coastal surroundings” Ellis cites as inspiration. From spindly seahorses to serpents, butterflies and bees, the creatures that form Totomoto’s jewellery collection have a native appeal. Chunky rings with exotically hued stones are also a favourite.
One of three fantastic labels to be finalists in the accessories category, Totomoto is one to watch regardless of the Debut programme’s outcome.
