There are quirky prints, and then there’s Swash, whose garments are literal canvases for digital renderings of hand-drawn and painted artworks. For the autumn / winter 2012 season, the brand covered everything from hats to tights in a party of whimsical prints. Some are as retiring as the vintage botanical wallpaper in an old English sitting room, others beckon your attention with bright reds or teals against the mechanical workings of watch parts. Sometimes they match, at others they boldly clash.
Created by Central Saint Martins graduates Sarah Swash and Toshio Yamanaka, Swash is based in London but stocked in boutiques across the world. It’s not hard to understand the success; there’s a very personal and artistic touch to pieces like these that go beyond occasions or seasons.
