Zac Posen's Fashion Rules

Written by Daniel P Dykes on 31.01.07

Described as having the "mastery of Christian Dior and Madame Vionnet" 26 year old designer would like to share some fashion tips with all men. Complimenting Sean Combs and having him as a financial backer might seem a little skewed, but there are still some ideas to be gleaned.

2. You should always carry a handkerchief. It's a courteous thing to have. If I'm out at night, I keep a handkerchief on hand for a lady.
5. Beautiful pyjamas are essential. The best are Sea Island cotton plaid ones from Turnbull & Asser.

H+M Off The Mark with Madonna

Written by Tania Braukamper on 07.12.06

Apparently, Madonna will design a fashion range for H&M. The 'M by Madonna' range, we're told, will be released in March 2007.

The question is: how many people actually want to look like Madonna? And we're not talking Madonna in her hey-day, when she somehow managed to make dark eyebrows and bleached hair look fashion forward. We're talking about Madonna today. In recent times we've seen her all too often in tracksuit pants, doing freaky acrobatics in high-cut leotards and taking on the world one orphan at a time with those veiny Rocky-esque bicepts. Although the descriptions of Madonna as a style chameleon and successful cultural phenomenon can hardly be refuted, the question is more of her relevance to fashion today. Do the younger generations, who are the target audience of stores like H&M, want to dress like Madonna?

H&M have had some highly successful collaborations in the past with popular and well-regarded fashion designers. It would seem that Kate Moss being picked up by TopShop may just have rival retailers clambering for their own celebrity-named lines in response.

Move over Stella McCartney - that's what fashion's all about.

How To Wear: Gold

Written by Tania Braukamper on 09.11.06
One of Autumn's biggest trends sees black and gold reunited in plush fabrics and decadent detail. Think deep black velvet and suede, gold threading and brocade. For something more suitable for daytime wear, opt for simple fabrics or demin set off by gold accessories. If you're on the sunny side of the world, you can easily pick the trend up and bring it into Summer mode, with pieces that will carry over to Autumn and Winter.

DO:
- Embroidery, beading and brocade
- Bold gold jewellery, like gold chains, solid gold cuffs, and gold belt buckles
- Gold leather accessories, like sexy high-heeled shoes, evening bags and soft leather belts
- Sparkle

She's back and She's Bold

Written by Tania Braukamper on 21.09.06

Ann-Sofie Back shows off her boldest collection at London Fashion Week. After launching her own label in 2001, she has continuously succeeded in offering an alternative to other designers with her pieces being inspired by normality. This week is no exception with her line showing that the mundane can, indeed, be exciting.

Like Marajoara in their recent collection, this designer has used 'real women' in the past to promote her designs. The Swedish designer has not failed to impress, with reported new stocklists picking up her garments this season.

Roland Mouret and Gap Join Forces

Written by Tania Braukamper on 19.09.06

The trend toward designer / store collaborations continues with the announcement of Roland Mouret for Gap.

According to Vogue UK:

A line of ten dresses... from the man who created the Galaxy dress will put Gap in the running for plenty of cash come November 7, when they are due to go on sale in the UK and France. Even better, three of Mouret's designs will be sold as part of the Gap (PRODUCT) RED collection - 50 per cent of the profits they generate will go to The Global Fund to fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria that was set up by Bono and Bobby Shriver earlier this year.
