That's about the only way to sum up Hervé Léger by Max Azria Spring/Summer 2009; the one truly unforgettable collection of New York Fashion Week thus far. And not only is it one of the most unforgettable, it's also going to be one of the most influential. 2009 fashion trend setting abounds on this catwalk. With more sex appeal than even Angelina Jolie can muster, the Azria's have guaranteed the one-shoulder trend a place in 2009. But they haven't stopped there. Daisy Lowe for Agent ProvocateurAgent Provocateur have a knack for getting some of the coolest fashion icons to strip down to their bare essentials for their advertising campaigns (think Kate Moss in The Four Dreams of Miss X) which is why I'm left wondering why Peaches Geldof is appearing alongside Daisy Lowe in their latest campaign; Season of the Witch. High Fashion, High Tea; Backstage PicturesLeave it to photographer Wayne Wong to not only snap pictures of your models at the end of the catwalk, but also backstage. That's precisely what Wayne did at September 2008's High Fashion, High Tea when he took some of the event's models and took full advantage of the setting in between catwalks.
Kaleidescape - MSFW 2008Proving that steps and seven inch heels don't mix, Melbourne Spring Fashion Week's Kaleidescape parade opened this evening with Sally Graham, the face of fashion week, not so much traversing the stairs but falling down them. Such is the life of a model on a ridiculous square catwalk that many a person has been miffed about. But proving her professionalism Graham simply picked herself up, and got on with it having joined the esteemed company of many a professional model - yes Jessica Stam, we're looking at you.
Out of the Shadows: MSFW 2008Out of the Shadows, the second main parade of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week, was aimed at the cool kids. You know, the ones who consider themselves quite alternative but are somehow yet to realise that their quirky styles have become rather mainstream and commercial. And so the usual suspects - along with FAT, purveyor of all such things - took to the MSFW stage... but were sadly less edgy, less new than usual.
The Luxe Collective - MSFW 2008In the surrounds of the Victorian majesty that is the Melbourne Town Hall, Melbourne Spring Fashion Week 2008 hit its stride yesterday evening when Sally Graham took to the catwalk and opened The Luxe Collective show.
As if proof that things haven't gone quite smoothly for MSFW of late, a naming sponsor notably absent from this year's line-up, it was a night where organisers tried to be somewhat different. MSFW 2008 launch partyIn the nouveau riche surroundings that is Silk Road, and watched over by some suspect Caravaggio interpretations, Melbourne Spring Fashion Week (MSFW) 2008 launched this evening. Attracting what can be best described as Melbourne's usual suspects, from yours truly through to the likes of Richard Nylon and Gwendolynne Burkin, Melbourne's fashion scene descended en masse to glimpse a preview of what's in store for us over the coming week.
Alexi Freeman & Kwamee parade photosIf you missed out on Saturday night's fashion parade featuring Alexi Freeman and Kwamee by Francis, then never fear... the photos are here.
Of course, if you want to catch Alexi Freeman's Spring/Summer 2008/2009 collection in the flesh, along with designs from the likes of Thurley and Daniel Avakian, then make sure you don't miss High Fashion, High Tea during fashion week! Miranda Kerr: David Jones Spring/Summer 08/09If fashion retail could be compared to a game of chess, then Australian department store David Jones last moved into a position one might consider check. No, they haven't won their battle against MYER and its middle market, but in bringing supermodel Miranda Kerr on board as it's face, and organising what can only be described as the country's most professional and effective consumer based event, David Jones have moved themselves into an enviable position. So it was that last night I found myself in an enviable position. A guest of David Jones at their Spring/Summer 2008/2009 launch in Melbourne's Town Hall, having chatted with Kerr earlier in the day could guarantee one thing: all eyes would be on her. To hell with the clothing, the A through Z listers such as myself - the hype, the buzz, and the energy would all revolve around the girl from the country who's made it big in New York.
