Fashionably tucked away down a dark laneway off Chapel St, Prahran, we entered into the abandoned warehouse that is Oak Off Chapel through a low cut-out hole in a graffitied rollardoor. A dark flight of stairs later and we found ourselves in an exhibition space-slash-boutique where clothes and accessories by independent designer labels hung from the ceilings in clusters. I'm smitten by the small yet unique collections, from the dark, sophisticated wares of Sosume and Kollate to the stand-out accessories of Jude and Tor Mathieson (the latter of which we spied on one guest, in the form of a necklace which spelled out the uncensored word C**T).
In the coming weeks, starting Wednesday March 10, the Oak Off Chapel gallery and store will be open to the public.
Opening hours are Monday to Thursday 10-5, Friday 10-7, Saturday 10-5, and Sunday 11-4. Visit http://www.oakoffchapel.com.au/ for more information.
