Yes some young models do drop out for many reasons, other pressures, not being able to cope physically or mentally and many other reasons. Also some are cast inappropriately as had been mentioned. But there will be times when it is "appropriate" to cast an obviously young girl, in an older role. Such is art and also such is advertising. The bottom line for most work is does it bring in the goods. Directors, stylists, casting teams, ad teams, will all try many combinations to aim for sales/audience. If they think it works they will do it. What one tends to find in EU is that many things will be tried but only those that work, ie have some real art/beauty/appeal, will stay around and other strange attempts, maybe like a 12yr old in a wedding dress, will get some initial curiosity then disappear. If you find that what you think is weird and shouldnt be done, is being done a lot, then we have to question, if it's working why is it working and why do I not see it.

On the central point of "age", I really come back to my main gripe about any fixed limit, whether it be BMI or age; that no two people are the same. I know of some models of 14/15 that have it all, more than some 18yr olds, they act smart and cool, they shoot brilliantly and cope with life with such an ease compared with some uptight 18yr olds. The reverse is also true! This is my point:)

Models and people in general should be taken on their merits and ability and if someone has THE face for a show, or the general wow, then dont let age be some means to keep the poor girl down or to ensure "older" models get their cut of the action first.

We always should keep in mind it is soley depended upon responsiable parenting. And this alone have already produced excellent models who were even a couple days old. It is on the parents, and how they are listen to and they have properly acted to the contracts being signed, and what the job entails were everything should be focused on. I model for the Americana Hotel, Miami, Beach Florida 1960 at its swiming pool with others who modeling as parents in the shoot. I was 13 at the time. Later as
Washington DC 1969 at the Cherry Blossom Festival - when I just finish serving in the Army as well as a duty hitch in Vietnam. I need the money, which was easy, as I was being likewise being trained to be a dance teacher at Arthur Murray Dance Studios, Washington, DC.

ok, i saw that 15 y.o on the news the other night... i was like hrmmm ok... she's doesn't look that bad in a shot they showed but then they showed her cat walking (practice) anyways... she looked really young but not young in that first photo not the sucking lollipop but another, then they continued to show more photos and I was like ahhhh No.. way too young, she was really skinny in my eyes but i think in a year or two she would be able to do this. But she will be 16 by the time the fashion show starts. So.... atm no, perhaps later, a definite yes.

Of course, dumping her is actually illegal under the Federal Age Discrimination Act.

I think Claire's great, worse she was going to be 16 on the first day of Fashion Week, it's not like shes a total novice who is going to be out of her depth she's just spent months in Singapore shooting. Poor chick, worse I bet there are other 15 year olds working fashion week who just don't happen to be the face of the event.
If they were really worried about kids doing fashion parades they'd stop serving champagne backstage!

i think that pic with the lollipop is pretty damn suggestive for a 15 year old kid.

do you know if she's going to take legal action?

I think she should.
fuck that! I think her agency should have the obligation to take action on her behalf!

you can't fuck someone around like that

I doubt she would, it certainly wouldn't help her career.

The whole debate is on again:

Should Monika Jagaciak be at Australian Fashion Week

A FURORE has erupted over plans to put a 14-year-old model centre stage at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week.

Vogue magazine has refused to feature Polish teenager Monika Jagaciak, also known as Jak, in its coverage of the premier fashion week.

And Vogue editor Kirsty Clements has called for a minimum age of 16 for models starring in the event.

Fashion week organisers around the world have placed a minimum age of 16 on models following concerns over body image and exploitation of young models.

Ms Clements said yesterday: "We found out on Wednesday about Jak's age and told (Fashion Week boss) Simon Lock there was no way Vogue could be involved in promoting her.

"Jak was absolutley a potential for the cover, we were lined up to shoot her but when I discovered this week that she was 14 I was like 'ah, no way'.

"I have children who are 13 and 14 and I'm still tucking them into bed in their jim-jams.

"I just think there should be a standardized rule that specifies models should be at least 16 to participate in RAFW," she said.

The International Managment Group, which now owns and runs Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, is bringing Ms Jagaciak to Australia under its modelling arm, IMG Models.

The rising catwalk star has already appeared in advertising campaigns for top international fashion houses Hermes and Calvin Klein.

RAFW boss Mr Lock has defended the controversial move to bring her to Australia.

"Jak will be chaperoned by an agent from her mother agency (Gaga in Poland) and she is coming with the full approval of her parents, who are very switched on and extremely supportive," said Mr Lock.

"I have a 14-year-old daughter myself, so I'm well aware of the situation - we want to see these models grow and devlop through this opportunity at RAFW, not be exploited.

"Hopefully she will have a great experience and one day, when she's a world famous model, she'll think of us."

Major fashion weeks around the world including London and Sao Paolo have put a ban on models under the age of 16.

The British Fashion Council, which organises London Fashion Week last year enforced a ban on all models under 16.

And Brazil's Sao Paolo ruled all models under 16 off the catwalk in 2006.

Australian Fashion Week sets no enforcable age limit. Instead it simply has guidelines that models under 16 have written permission of their parents and be chaperoned at shows.

The Australian Fashion Council has also slammed the decision by Australian Fashion Week to tout the Jagaciak as a star of fashion week.

Jo Kellock, acting general manager of Australian Fashion Council, said a model of that age would be better suited to modelling children's clothes.

"You have to question whether a 14-year-old has the emotional maturity and is rational enough to be in this world," Mrs Kellock said.

The Australian Family Association has also joined the chorus of criticism.

"Being thrown into that highly ciritical environment at such a young age can't be good for a young girls development especially consdering the prevalence of body issues in young women today," said Australian Family Association spokesman Jerome Appleby.
