Agyness Deyn - is her career close to over?

Is anyone else suffering Agyness Deyn burnout? A rather unchanging style, and a some what stereotyped look has left me wondering how long Deyn really has left. The 80s will be a faux pas soon enough, can she adapt?

Here's an instance of burnout. Six i-D covers in one month. Collect them all. Before she's gone.

Saw her in NYC recently walking down ze avenue. She looked perfectly modern in her 'every day' clothing. I think its the look that will burnout, not her.

I can't imagine her style sticking for long - imo she needs to seriously reinvent herself if she wants to last.

Can't help but love her, really! I can't exactly put my finger on that certain thing why she amazes me, though.

Her style, on the other hand... Not my cup of tea, I'm afraid.

Now that her collaboration with i-D is out, some thoughts on this thread.

For someone whose "career may be close to over", she hasn't done too bad to bag a complete i-D edition all to herself:)

Real modelling is not all about sleek hair, high cheekbones, super pretty as there are a zillion girls like that in this industry already and also just out on the streets. Some of modelling is all about being a "clothes horse" in the nicest possible way, attracting the eye and showing off the clothes to their best. Some of modelling is about photographic image and art. Some of modelling is about a feeling, a way of life, a spirit. Some models are sufficiently different in looks and/or personality to stand out and can be made, or are just naturally, a "brand". Once this happens that model gets bookings and commissions on the basis of who she is. Kate is of course the prime example of that but Lilly C has also made it into this elite form of being a model.

So along comes a gangly strange girl from northern England with her lovable accent and from the very first moment she used her personality to get signed (some will know the tale how this happened!) to now, she has become who she is because she is different, she has an amazing personality and most of all she is "just her". Kate is also "just her". When with Aggy you realise she is just wonderfully nuts!

Those that dont see it, why she is so successful, have never seen her before, during and after a shoot. Photographers want life out a model and she gives it in bucket fulls. She is also not afraid to wear and do exactly what she wants and in doing so earns respect and a following. She is a huge breath of fresh air in the industry and this again is why she is picked time and time again. Clients want a new fresh look and feel to connect with greater market segments and make existing ones wake up. This is a money focused industry; if Aggy was not bringing in the bucks, she wouldn't be where she is.

She is not suited to all work and if I wasn't so close to it, I could say here what I think her flaws are, but as we all have flaws I am never going to diss another model in public.

Will she have to change to stay successful? Maybe but not for a little while for like Lily C, her appeal now is because of how she looks but also her verve. Aggy will be able to change her look as required but for sure never change her personality and like Kate, this is the most enduring and endearing quality. I am not saying she is another Kate, I don't hold Aggy in anything like that high regard, but I do recognise why she is successful and I believe she will be for quite a while yet:) Some fresh faces come and go, some stay longer, those with more than just the face last longer. I think you will find though that she migrates from modelling from her own choice eventually.

Some extracts from the all Aggy issue of i-D -if you work in a place that knows nothing of fashion, photography, the female body and life, then don't scroll down. Some are NSFM (Not Safe For Monks) :)
