Backless can be sexy, but with many things, it needs to look good too. I prefer lots of shape - particularly when the back is nice and streamlined and has that little dip between the should blades because of muscle definition.
Don't forget completely covering up your front and back. Shoulders and shoulder blades a an accent are very striking when there is less of you showing.
