American Apparel has faced no shortage of controversy, and it looks like they're not turning over a new leaf just yet.
The clothing company has been sued for $10 million by director Woody Allen, who claims AA used his image on billboards and the Internet without his consent. The ads, which went up in May 2007, depict Allen as a rabbi, a shot which the lawsuit alleges American Apparel ripped off from Allen's 1977 movie Annie Hall.
American Apparel, like Abercrombie & Fitch, is well-known for their provocative advertising, mostly involving women in suggestive poses. Do you think this takes it to a new level?
I think that American Apparel are stupid for not getting consent and thinking they'd get away with it, if that is the case of course.
These days, corporate use of images without consent is atrocious. News websites are one of the worst too. I have a friend who had their live photos of a Victorian band taken from her site to be used on a news websites without her consent. They also did not acknowledge where they took the photos from. She's had to resort to taking some of the companies to court.
oh they knew what they were doing. they would have budgeted for being sued by him, but they have gotten nationaly recgonized publicity. Bizarre option but not unheard of
