Are skinny jeans on the way out?

Right it seems like we're at a saturation point, and people are looking to other styles for the answer to 'where next?'. Our information saturated culture has every publication and industry professional dying to be on-top of the next big thing.

We've seen a positive shift in the silhouette that has been defined as fashionable. It's taken many years for men's casual wear to turn sexy again. We're defining a new type of masculinity and are choosing clothing to suit our lifestyles. We're seeing a growing fondness for the detail and style of generations past, both in the opulence of the aristocracy, and the identity in working class work wear, the hippie movement, mod, 'rock' through its movements (glam, punk, new wave, grunge) and many other periods and lifestyles.

The pages of history are open to anyone who wants to re-create fashions, that is a luxury we have today now more than ever. I don't see any reason why we have to rock the same fashion or look every day! How do we know that Penelope Cruz wasn't rocking skinny denim the day before that photo was taken, and pastel trousers the day after? We don't need to be hung up on ONE era-defining silhouette anymore, we can mix and match to create different looks to suit different purposes, or even just different moods.

James- true. But we can decide whether to we wish to hide what is good about our bodies or go out looking like a bin liner. I too find the slavish following of a trend to be a sign of a weak person and sad, but also the debasing of what is naturally beautuful and fine, also sad:) Let us have variety and personal choice but let us also have clothes that compliment a body and enrich rather than hide and debase. If one has a good body, it is a gift, show it. If one doesnt, hide it! There is no "right", no "in", there is only beauty and elegance.

-Debate in less than 500 words while I go out for the night lol

There's nothing better than a tight fitting pair of faded 501's and I'm lucky enough to still be a size 28" at nearly 40, so I've seen the "skinny jeans" come and go a few times now. But here in Australia, the guys are going out and buying up the girls jeans as they are finding it hard to get them in men's stores, and yes, they say that higher waists are very popular. Go figure!

Higher waisted is ok... but you still have to be careful as too high can be unflattering as well. As we've been seeing in the Hit or Miss thread (thank you Mischa and Jessica...) ;) Getting rid of muffin-top is a good thing though.

Some more wide-legged jean disasters, courtesy of Red Carpet Style Awards:

Drew Barrymore's are fine but that's beacuse the legs aren't that wide... Katie Holmes and Eva Mendes definitely look fatter than they actually are in those type of jeans.

As long as they're dressing like that, the skinny jeans are here to stay.
