I'm excited, I think we were ready for a change and I really was unhappy with Liberal's Economy vs Environment approach.

if you all heard my mum on the phone to me saturday night, you'd be worried... it really drove home what a hard time this country could possibly endure. Interest rates are already rising... who can stop them now...are we looking down the barrel of another recession? Should i be packing my bags now and leaving the country for work before its too late?

Well firstly I believe that our environment is very important and signing Kyoto should have been done a long time ago. Yes, signing that wont change alot but I think that having a government that acknowledges that something should be done will help.
Yes the environment is important, but there's also more to Kyoto than that. For starters Australia had already been committed to reaching the emissions targets, despite not formally being signed in. Also if you look at New Zealand, which is very close to home, signing Kyoto in 2002 has cost tax payers over $1 billion dollars. A lot of the cost also falls on businesses, which means they're more likely to move offshore - not exactly great for the NZ economy. Unfortunately it's not all rainbows and sunshine.

And yes Kaz I think this is the disturbing part, playing at Presidential style politics (celebrity candidates! I.e. aging rock stars and news readers) and marketing spin and winning. What does that say about the Australian public?

You wouldn't be the only one. I know of a few people looking at effective political exile, with a view to working overseas in potentially more stable countries.

Some excellent points on Kyoto Tania. It's going to cost us a lot, and Labor never included those costs in their supposed budgeted figures. How about an increase in the cost of living for downward pressure on interest rates Mr. Rudd?

Given that the notion of global warming (as opposed to environmental change) still has a massive question mark above it, and those pushing it aren't personally doing anything towards it that they don't profit from, that's a hell of a lot of our money spent on something that won't possibly come to fruition.

Wow what a day. Catching up on the news;

* Tony Abbott has confirmed he'll nominate. That's along with Dr. Brendan Nelson (very professional, very eloquent and intelligent - not sure about his media profile though). Joe Hockey has apparently said no to the job. And Alexander Downer may run for it (he should wait 10 years, he'll be a great 'elder statesman').
* Mark Vaile has stepped down from the Nationals leadership.
* Turnbull has clearly started the 2010 election campaign. He's got a lot of push, and is looking brilliant for it.
* Kevin Rudd has said that he'll say sorry to the Aborigines. Did he announce that before the election? :S
