A lot of the fashion buyers I know have started out either working on the retail floor, or cut their teeth working in smaller boutiques which allow them to get hands on buying experience quite rapidly.

Im just finding it difficult breaking into retail altogether. Expessally in Melbourne where most boutiques want their employees to be a 6 foot model.

Breaking into retail will be a killer right here and now. Wait for August and September when they being to ramp up their sales and you should have no problem :)

I got the best retail experience at David's Bridal, I myself just finished fashion design and marketing courses. I did my intern at David's Bridal as a wedding consultant, it was like being a personal shopper for a woman's most important day. You also get very excited when you find the right dress and the bride starts to shed tears of happiness. Its almost just like the show SAY YES TO THE DRESS with a little less drama. Hoped I helped Good Luck
