Choosing a hair colour that suits you

Blog post by Ren:

When choosing a new hair colour, be sure to make sure that you aren't just following a trend - too many people are dying their hair colours which simply dont suit their face and skin tones.

Take the beautiful Angelina Jolie for example. One would think that nothing could possibly make her look anything less than amazing. However with the wrong hair colour (blonde) or wrong styling (curly) you can see that the mismatch is fatal.

Cameron Diaz, on the other hand, does blonde much better than brunette which is too harsh for her delicate skin and light eyes, making her skin appear to have a reddish tinge.

Similarly, im not a huge fan of Kirsten Dunst with Red hair, as Mary Jane in the Spiderman sequels as it dulls her features. Blonde makes her appear younger and more glamorous.

Jessica Simpson should definitely stick to blonde bombshell, as seen brunette here at the New Yorks Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala recently.

What are your thoughts on choosing hair colours?

Of the pictures give, I think only Angelina looks better as a brunette (blonde just doesn't work for her). The comparisons between Jessica are probably a bit unfair, there's been a lot of water under the bridge between those two shots.

Jessica could probably do brunette, but that's just not a good colour - it's too mousy. Maybe a richer brunette, or light brown?

Hair colour, the temperamental mistress. Sometimes you do need to listen to us Hairdressers on what suits, those of us who still care want yu to look your best, but it can be so hard to find a Hairdresser who still has the passion, so here's a tip on how to find a good colourist. the only hairdresser who understood my hair had a baby and married a rich guy and gave up work :( i no longer trust hairdressers after me and my friend went in together for rather pricey hair cuts, one came out with streaks in a color only describable as techno-japanese-orange (the color when those little japanese girls in our high school got when they bleached their hair) as if the "hairdresser" had never heard of toning, and the other came in after spending $800 on gorgeous extensions (she wanted to get them layered a little so they sat nicely with the rest of her hair) and ended up with them mostly cut off (seriously, the girl left them 4 inches longer than her hair before she had them put in!) now we are both too scared!
