Closet orphans (let's play a game)

Hello everyone!

I'm currently cleaning up my wardrobe... I've got some clothes that I have never worn (or don't wear anymore) because I don't have a clue on how to wear them well. I call them my 'closet orphans'. I suppose that everybody has some...

Still, I don't want to throw them away, as they're in excellent condition and are of very good quality, but it's frustrating to see them taking valuable storage place for nothing. Maybe you can help me?

I'll be happy to help if someone is in the same situation as I. So if you've got some closet orphans too, please post them!

Here's my first sartorial puzzle: an Abercrombie and Fitch very fitted long sleeved white cashmere sweater, with a very deep v-neck. The trouble is, it's so thin it's see-through. I'm not sure what to wear underneath, as it will show through the cashmere. It really is that transparent!

Here's a picture, though mine is white

u could do the obvious and wear white underneath or u cud try a beige and team it with brown boots and a bag... or maybe light pastel colours.. :)

Thanks Kaz! But what kind of top would look good underneath? I've tried tank tops, but they looked weird... A tube top perhaps?

It looks like a gorgeous jumper... A simple white singlet underneath perhaps? Or this may sound odd but I sometimes find that with slightly sheer white tops black actually looks better underneath - because rather than trying to disguise it you're providing a contrast. I think you'd have to go a tight, low-cut singlet to match with the V.

yes tight low cut v neck is perfect... you should either heavy contrast it with black or navy.. or let it blend with pastels and neutrals.. steer clear or bright colours, greens, oranges etc

I'll drop by the American apparel or Zara soon to try on your ideas. Thanks!

Ok, now I've got another puzzle for you. These are my 3 years old jeans. I've got two pairs like that. One is plain black (no wash), the other is made of black corduroy (no wash). The problem is, they look brand-new, but they also look extremely dated, being low-rise with a (quite flared) boot-cut. Should I keep them hidden in my closet for a few more years, or is there a way to get away with them now? They might have an inseam of 36 inches, but the flare still shows a lot.

Here's a picture of them, though in another colour.

go to an alteration lady and get the flare taken in to become new skinny leg jeans!

I've thought about that, but all the seamstresses I've asked won't do jeans. I could call some others until I find one that will do them, but the problem is, skinny jeans have been around for a long while... will they still be worn in a year from now? I don't want to pay for expensive alterations and then regret it a few months later.

Just a thought... won't skinny pants made of corduroy look weird anyway? lol. I guess it would be quite a fashion statement!

Now that I think about it... maybe I should have them cut straight, without being skinny. They wouldn't have the flare anymore.

Yes, I think I'll do that. Thanks for the idea Kaz!
