howdy once again,

another question for all you business savvy people and accountants. as the title says, whats the diff between the two? is it an Australian thing to have Pty.Ltd? i ask the question because i would much rather have Co.Ltd cause it looks and sounds better..ha.

I did read somewhere in one of the ABR documents that the "Co" abreviation can be used but there doesnt seem to be a defined business structure category for it other than a proprietry limited which is (pty.ltd) private company?

arrrh...all this paperwork is a yarn ball of fun...but it has to be done.

cheers.

as far as i know in Australia any registered private company is pty ltd (proprietry limited). The "ltd" is used by itself when you are referring to public companies, and if, for example, they were called xyz company, they could call themselves xyc co ltd.
Internationally, companies (ie in thailand) can call themselves co. ltd as a limited company/corporation but, to cut a long story short, if your in australa, and your planning on registering a private company, your stuck with pty ltd.

thanks ruru

yeah someone suggested naming it such as "xyz company proprietry limited" so it could be xyz co.pty.ltd, too messy. guess ill just have to live with pty.ltd. thanks again.
