Converse All Stars for the Stars

First sold in 1917 and once a feature of the grunge look, Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars (also known simply as Chucks) have moved steadily from subculture to main stream. Comfortable as a day shoe, though incredibly casual they've been dressed up and down and have been seen on everyone from Sienna Miller to Doctor Who.

While Sienna Miller gains street-cred from the Chucks, David Tennant's Doctor Who defines geek chic.

Ashlee Simpson and Nicole Richie

We're not sure that anyone actually knows how many variations of the shoe exist, a horde of colours and patters, the ability to customise a pair, and different cuts including high top, low, mule and Oxford; however, this hasn't stopped a variety of manufacturers and designers copying the style. Take for instance, the low cut variety from Lily Allen's collection for New Look;

While Chucks certainly seem to be reaching a point of mass-saturation, there certainly isn't evidence of this being a trend which will die down any time soon.

The John Varvatos & Converse collab is definitely reveling in the grunge image:

Anyone know of any Australian stockists?

The Varvatos with leather laces are very cool =)

Do those high hi-tops have a specific name for the cut?
