David Jones Spring / Summer Collections Launch

Posted: 29.08.2006 at 18.04
The David Jones Spring / Summer Collections Launch in Melbourne earlier this month proved that this Spring's fashions will not be short of colour or flamboyance. In contrast to the bold curly mops seen on the models at the Sydney shows (pictured), the Melbourne launch was dominated by springy, neat high pony-tails and dewy makeup.

Leading the fashion spectacle was Lisa Ho. Earthy colours such as browns and creams were the main feature in her swimwear collection, with blues edging their way into the earthy mix. Seafolly immersed their collection in bright, bold hues, while Zimmerman's swimwear range went wild with animal and jungle prints.

Seafolly's bold use of electric blue, and Zimmerman's leopard print bikini:

Big hats and bold colours emerged as a striking statement from the Mimco range, a trend already evident in many stores. Tigerlilly proved that the nautical trend is still going strong with stripes in red, white and blue the order of the day.

Mimco's wide-brimmed hats:

Sass & Bide gave us more of their trademark unique cuts, jazzed up with cut-off opaque tights and arm warmers, while George Gross had everything from sunray pleats to mini shifts, to floor-sweeping gowns.

Alannah Hill displayed her token mis-matching patterns as only she seems to be able to get away with, mixing florals with stripes and feminine lace. Collette Dinnigan brought delicate fabrics and beading into new territory by combining them with super-short hemlines. A sure stand out for Trelise Cooper was the teaming of stirruped above-the-knee tights with this season's sexy platform heels.

For the men, tailoring was definitely the theme with both Calibre and Morrissey presenting sharp, structured looks. Meanwhile, Alice McCall's high-waisted tuxedo-style pieces brought the same look across to the ladies wear.

Did any others go watch the David Jones launch parades? Any stand out designers or favorite pieces?
