Does it do the same thing? e.g. Dermalogica vs.Garnier

As a highschool kid, I used Darphin and then later switched to Dermalogica. One day I ran out and just used what my brother was using - Proactiv. Apart from the initial stinging and dryness that I experienced from using Proactiv, I really can't tell if there's a difference? My friend used to use SKII and now she's using Happyderm from Loreal and she really likes it.

Do you think it does the same thing?

Hi Carol.
Not all skincare products are born equal. You need to shop around to find one that works for you and your skin type.

Stinging and dryness are not good things. If your skin feels dry or 'tight' after cleansing, or you suffer from 'shiny' patches on your skin late in the day, the cleanser is too harsh for you - and I'd recommend switching to another brand.
