I have quite some experience. Yes it takes a long time to rank organically on Search but you can start with paid search that can be tailored to your target online buyers (keywords, GeoIP,...). To do really a good job on SEO you need to work on 3 fronts: content (relevant keyword rich content), crowability (spiders access) and link equity (how many and relevant sites point to your site).

You can easily find a lot of informations and ideas just by talking to some successful online entrepreneurs and maybe you can buy some guide e-books on this subject.

Ive had a meeting with a good design firm and its a pretty penny to get one nicely setup. A simple paypal setup seems the go for me for now....its cheap, might not look all that flash but if it does the job im happy. I make myself believe that if a person has already made the decision to purchase, asthetics doesnt really matter anymore..lol

Also since you're just setting up you'll need to SEO your site which is really hard to do with all flash.
Just make sure you use the right metas, that they're in the title tag, the description and in the body.
Don't overload them either.

There's debate about this so you won't get a concrete answer.

Also avoid link farming sites. You don't want to get black listed.

Wow, even on a sick day I'm still working.

Meta tags don't work as much anymore but still good to have. As long as the keywords are in the content of your pages, you're all good :)

To clarify Wayne, meta tags do still work for certain search engines. There's a debate as to which Google reads and doesn't read. It seems it reads the description, but potentially not the meta keywords. If it actually does read the latter, then it influences keyword density only.

i can understand how important it is to SEO your site especially if its a service site if your after a general service but do you guys think its as important for a fashion label? I mean I think when someone is after a particular label they would seach specifically for that label? Then again someone could be doing a generaly seach for say designer tee's or australian designers, then i guess it would be more important.

I have no idea how to do it but i think i'll be able to nut it out...lol just another thing to learn..ha all fun and games.

Here's a good example of why it's still important even if people know your label.

Hit Google.com.au and type in Jack London; the actual site comes up on the front page but there are several problems with it. Amongst them:
* The listing is low, and below a lot of Google content that you'll probably never read past
* And it doesn't tell you a thing. It could be about a brothel called Jack London for all the worth the description is.

So instead search for something you might naturally search for, unimpressed with the results.

Jack London fashion

They don't appear at all. In fact, the first result isn't exactly complimentary.

Hahahaha, that's how I found this site.

It's true that keyword meta's aren't as important, but the title tag and description ones are and it's important that you have the words in the body.

I found out that flash 8 pro has a feature built in for title and description. Not sure if its as good as a proper coding though but it kinda makes my life easier if it actually works.
