A lot of the money raised from selling fake bags goes to funding underground organisations including terrorist organisations.

Having heard that several times myself, I have to wonder how true it really is. Frankly it just sounds like clever spin on behalf of a lobby group to me. [/quote]

I think the conclusion is virtually unavoidable if you've seen the third world fake markets ... *shudder*

I've seen then, but I still can't plausibly determine whether or not the fake bags and watches are funding suicide bombers and the like.

It is a very lucrative trade.
It's probably less likely that the funds raised from said illegal activity is funding suicide bombers and more likely that they are funding other clandestine/illegal organised crime circles.

I personally know of one fake goods syndicate in Shanghai which is run by corrupt police officers. They seize goods in "police raids" and then sell it to public through their outlet! So perhaps it is not funding terrorism per se but definitely funding lots of illegal activity.

I'm still very willing to believe that fake goods are often sold by terrorist organisation or at least crime organisations. I mean it does take a fair amount of co-ordination and capital to manufacture fake designer goods, and I can't imagine that the individual dealers in markets have access to that kind of structure - the goods themselves have to come from somewhere big and illegal.

I hate them. Not only are they tacky and horrible but they undermine the credibility of the real thing and you have everyone assuming that the bag you've just forked out your life savings on is a fake. For example the brutalisation of the burberry check and LV monogram....

I find it hilarious when young girls the age of 13 are carrying designer bags...b/c you totally know its a fake and they don't seem to understand how to match their outfits with their bags.

I can't stand them, they're butchering 'fashion' :(

I don't like fakes AT ALL!
I hate them, because it takes away that special something about a brand.
Like the Louis Vuitton Monogram bags..they seem to be everywhere!!
And some people really don't see the difference between a real or fake one, so that's even worse. If you can't effort it, you shouldn't buy it all or try to save some money and then buy it. I don't even like those bags anymore. (Though I'm in love with those gold Miroir bags and there are not a lot fakes ones out of that one yet)
But fake designer clothes/bags and other stuff is pathetic.
I dislike it on everyone.

though it's worse on soem girls of my age, because sometimes they're wearing teh most cheap-ish clothes you can get and then add a little fake lv or gucic bag. It's ridiculous..

i hate fakes- ive been burnt by them. I bought a "real" chloe bag from a reputable shop in the city only to find out later it was a fake and went through the office of fair trading and the ACCC to get my $700 back. Not happy. I have family who have bought me fake stuff and i jsut dont use and sometimes give it away. I would never buy anything LV monogrammed because it all looks so fake! if you can't afford it- maybe thats the POINT its exclusive for a REASON. save up and buy one for gods sake!

Fakes are one of my pet hates - especially fashion fakes. I don't understand why anyone would buy them ... but then maybe I'm just elitist.

The other day I saw a friend wearing a "Chanel" scarf and I assumed that it was real because she used to work for Chanel and then she told me it was $5 in Chinatown. I said, "we need to talk...fakes are never cool" to which she said "honey, if you can't afford it fake it" and I said, "if you can't afford it, shop at target"...she still doesn't agree with me but I was shocked that she could wear fake Chanel having worked there.
