Runway Model on Famous Fall: 'Just a Really Funny Mishap'
By Carlos Granda

Oct. 19, 2007 (KABC-TV) - It's become the latest smash on YouTube and other sites on the Internet -- the model drop. In the video, she falls through a hole on the runway floor. Now she's talking about it, and having fun with the whole thing.

The fashion show started with Shao Lin monks doing kung fu. During an acrobatic flip, one actually cracks the floor and makes a sizable hole. Up next, the model simply doesn't see it.

That model is Sarah Walsh, who can laugh about it today.

"As a runway model, you have to keep your head up, you know," said Walsh. "So I didn't look down for a hole, particularly."

At the time, Walsh was one of the first to go down the runway. She's trained for obstacles, but didn't get the message to watch out for a hole.

"I just took maybe one or two steps, and bam, just plummeted into this hole, and I was ... I guess the best way to put it was, I was in shock," said Walsh. "And I was halfway submerged in water."

The video was shot by Darien Curry from Xonger.com, and it's become the most watched on YouTube -- more than 300,000 hits on Thursday night alone.

"When she fell -- actually, as with everybody else, I laughed at it," said Curry. "But after awhile, I thought to myself, I wonder if she's really, really hurt?"

She was hurt -- she suffered injuries to her ankle and thigh. But despite that, Walsh got up and was able to walk away.

The designer of the clothing line says it fits with his theme of empowerment and overcoming adversity.

"All we do is really to encourage people to be powerful, and to find the warrior within to overcome what they think is a challenge in their life," said designer Rafi Anteby. "And that's exactly what happened on the floor."

And what does Walsh think about people all over the world watching her take the plunge? The model says it is okay with her.

"I hope that they're enjoying this entertainment. It is just a really funny mishap. And I hope they're enjoying watching it just as much as I am," laughs Walsh.

Great that she can laugh about it, and good that she's spun it pretty well.
