Ha ha! I'm with you girl! I wear fake fur and I love it! HATE it when I see people wearing real fur! Just think they must be really stupid with a total disregard for anything but themselves!

*has a total disregard for anything but herself and is typing this while sitting on a leather couch, wearing leather boots, thinking about her fur coats and munching on some veal*

everybody is entitled to their own opinions, but calling us "really stupid", well that's mature.

funnily enough, if your ancestors didn't have a "total disregard for anything but themselves" you wouldn't even be here, they would have all died off somewhere in europe in the freezing freaking cold :D

I've worn both real and fake leather and fur and the substitutes just don't compare to the quality of garments made from natural materials.

as the synthetics are improving and have come a long way from where they used to be but are such a long way from the real thing that it seems doubtful that ethics will be the only factor differentiating the two materials.

for some people the knowledge that their clothes are of animal hides and skins isn't something they can handle. Others don't have any issue with the fact.

as for those objecting to fur being worn by men I really can't understand the reasoning behind the opinion. can anyone shed some light on this one?

because the only men you tend to see on this side of the world in fur are pimps and rappers. in europe etc where it is actually cold, more men are willing, however in aus, you just see it on tv..

I get a kick out of the likes of Victoria Beckham who abhor fur, yet don't seem to abhor their leather to quite the same degree. Difference being?

fur is often grown for the fur and nothing else.

leather can be a by product of a steak sandwich

I'll bare that in mind the next time I order my alligator steak sandwich.

Both fur and leather can be sourced from the animal without the care of a bi-product. Because cows are more frequently consumed as a dietary element doesn't change the factor of consumption as a result of death.

yes but alligators, crocodiles, deer, and cows etc. are farmed for food and are therefore required to conform to regulations governing food industries including humane treatment and slaughter. unlike those sables and chinchillas in the PETA video that's been circulating.

it's to do with the standards the farms are put to in order to insure the humane treatment of the animals.

thats the key difference.
yes animals are being killed for consumption but the how is also a big factor for consideration

So the problem is how they're killed, not that they are? Thus the debate should be about how people source ethical fur, not about wearing fur at all.
