Gisele weighs in on contraception and abortion debate

Reuters reports that supermodel Gisele Bundchen is taking the on the Church in Brazil, notably the world's largest Roman Catholic country, over its stand on abortion and birth control. She provides the following comment:

"It's ridiculous to ban contraceptives -- you only have to think of the diseases that are transmitted without them. I think it should be compulsory to use a contraceptive."

Though making contraceptives compulsory might not be the best idea, and may lead to a sharp decline in population, her push for contraception in Brazil does make sense. The country has the highest prevalence of aids in South America and accounts for 57% of all AIDs cases on Latin America. Of course, the other reason she gives is a little more interesting.

"Today no one is a virgin when they get married ... show me someone who's a virgin!"

Gisele wants people to avoid the itch, amongst other things

Her first reason is totally justified! I don't see how it is connected to the second though. AIDS is MAINLY an issue for men. What has the virginity status of women got to do with preventing AIDS? I'm assuming she's referring to women because she says 'married'. Not that I think gay couples shouldn't be married. :)

& pardon me, but that photo makes sex look fowl!

y do religious institutions have to be challenged? it's in particular demographic regions that AIDS is an issue due to socio economic status. So instead of challenging the church's beliefs re virginity, she should visit those regions and share the contraceptive pill. I didn't know there was one for men?!

& for those girls who r virgins! go get ur cervical cancer prevention vaccinations done 2nd of July!

so they have used her face for a proper campaign! if it takes a pretty face and an appeal to ppls animal instincts to make a difference, so be it! it would be good if the ppl behind the campaign convinced her to star in a documentary in africa showing her getting down and dirty! oow but she shouldn't share contraceptives with the children :)

so now the mantra is, keep a child alive & respect the role of religion in ppls lives even if ur not a believer! then again if there was a monetary reward for forgetting the role of religion in life and telling the world otherwise, 'show me someone who wouldn't do it!'

xo!!
