Gluten - Get rid of it!

Something you should read and consider

Gluten:

1. the tough, viscid, nitrogenous substance remaining when the flour of wheat or other grain is washed to remove the starch.

2. Archaic. glue or a gluey substance.

Or as Bessie Bardot accurately describes it in her book Bessie's Body Secrets:

'wheat, or more importantly, gluten, the protein found in many grains, used to thicken, fluff up and glue our foods together, from now on is the devil. Spawned from the pits of hell and force-fed to us by the food companies because it is cheap, easy to use and covers a multitude of culinary sins.'

'Gluten is a protein found in grains such as rye, wheat, oats, barley, triticale, spelt and kamut, and is used extensively in modern cooking to add texture and bind ingredients.'

'You think you don't eat much of these? Well, let's take a closer look at your diet. What do you eat for breakfast? Cereal, perhaps toast - plenty of gluten there. What do you eat for lunch? A salad sandwich, pasta, a pie - gluten. What do you eat for dinner? Lasagne, stroganoff, schnitzel - all are coated with or contain gluten. In fact, you will probably find most of your meals have gluten somewhere in them. Would you eat any food at every meal? Of course not. So why do we insist on loading up on gluten?'

'Even if you're not officially sensitive to wheat and gluten, gluten still has very few nutrients compared with the amount of calories it contains. It does nasty things like block the absorption of other vital vitamins and minerals and leads to all sorts of problems from weight gain to bad skin. Sensitive or not, you will benefit greatly by giving up gluten simply because it is such an empty food with negative side effects even for those people with no testable intolerance. Of course if you actually have a traceable intolerance or allergy, which some of you will and some of you won't have, it's absolutely vital for your future wellbeing to stop eating gluten now!'



Okay so I have recently been diagnosed as gluten & lactose intolerant...so im on the band wagon now! I've only ever stood in judgement when Ive heard someone say they're this or that intolerant & never really understood it or the side effects involved.

Now it all falls into place...the headaches, migraines, bloating, sore throats - at least once a month, swollen glands (just had one the other day I pointed out to my bf who was mesmerised by it - its common for me, and im sick of it), lack of energy & lack of attention...just to name a few. And for those wanting to lose weight it prevents you from losing weight & it even has a presence in it that makes you hungrier then you really are.

As I/we went shopping on Saturday, tears nearly burst out my eyes with the realisation that I have to pay more attention to what I am eating from now on not that I dont already! Or maybe it was the realisation that gluten is practically in every food I consume and I really had no idea & no idea of what it was doing to me.

Gluten is practically in everything. Let's face it, its cheap & nasty...and food manufacturers love it because its a filler. But we're the ones that are losing...there are no positive effects to gluten. It is found in the following:
Anything battered or crumbed.
Anything containing flour such as bread, biscuits, pastry, crackers, tarts.
Pasta and noodles.
Couscous.
Nearly all cereals.
Sauces - these are thickened with flour.
Soups.
Lollies/Candy.
Soy products such as soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, oyster sauce, tamari and marinades also have small levels of gluten.

Anyway, if you've managed to keep reading till now then you may be interested in becoming healthier...believe me, it has been 4 days now since not eating gluten & I have noticed the difference already! Its difficult to come to grips with having to skip most meals given by friends or family or those cravings for lollies/candy but its not that difficult once you realise it is almost mandatory to go on living healthy.

Gluten is of no need to the human body & only benefits food manufacturers...get rid of it & you will be a lot healthier!

And going back to the forum title, it is the perfect diet! You will lose weight easier!
