so what is this key society all about?

a cult for 'smart' people, also known as top 15% of a university - hello, not that big a deal with unis such as Monash (50,000 students = 7500 golden key invites every year). you pay them a once off fee, they give you a certificate thats universally recognised and a 'hey there' letter from accenture. Website also boasts about members only scholarships, but I reckon its a load of crock - only 100,000K per annum worldwide wouldnt be much even distributed between 2 people. Either way, chapters are run semi-autonomously, and the melbourne chapter has regular mixers and drinks once a month at trendy bars.

^thats all I got by interrogating no less than 4 different people. The website is very vague.

The whole Golden Key thing sounds like Phi Beta Kappa, it's the symbol they use, but on the other hand a golden key has quiet obvious symbolism, and I doubt that they could claim the idea exclusively.
