Hair Trends - leaving behind the Rachel

Throughout time, some of the more obvious celebrity hair trends have come from Farah Fawcett, Marilyn Monroe, Princess Diana and of course Jennifer Anniston with her 'Rachel' cut from Friends.

But as we move further away from the mid 1990s, celebrities are now opting to leave behind Jennifers look in favour of the long straight hair with a thick blunt fringe or bangs. The runways of New York, Paris and Milan are leading the way in this shift, and celebrities such as Reece Witherspoon, Halle Berry, Beyonce and Mischa have followed. Anne Hathaway's transformation from frump to fashionista in The Devil Wears Prada by way of a thick fringe also contributed strongly to the popularisation of the trend.

So, how long will the trend last, and what's going to be next? Victoria Beckham may be a fervent proponent of funky, cropped locks... but as a mainstream trend it's not likely to take over any time soon. Now, if only someone would bring back the perm..... :P

In Auckland lately I have seen quite a few of the cropped bobs, in many forms making their way down the main city streets. From messy to sleek, they have become quite a hit here thanks to Servilles and Toni & Guy hair stylists. Click to see photo, sorry I can't seem to paste it in here!

my hair is to my waist and I'll be dammned if a short trend is enough for me to cut it, besides long always comes back in style, generally in the fall. remember it only takes seconds to cut it off, it takes years to grow it back.

Ah... sometimes I wish I looked fierce with long hair, but, alas, I do not. So, for myself, I tend to go for a layered asymmetrical bob. At the moment I've got bangs as well and the buzz has been that it's my best look yet. I guess it just boils down to doing what suits your personal style, colouring, face shape, and features.

So true Lady Fabulous! It's all about what suits you, your style, your face shape. If you have a round face, be careful of the sleek bobs that end at your jaw, they will just make you look rounder! But if you like change, like me, then it's always fun to try something new, after all, it will always grow out. Have some fun!
